How to Help Keep Your Elderly Loved One Safe During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Keeping everyone safe during the coronavirus pandemic is important. Everyone must keep themselves safe, but also help keep others safe at the same time. There are ways that you and your elderly loved one’s elderly care providers can help to keep them safe during this pandemic. By following the tips below, you can help to reduce the chances that your elderly loved one will get the coronavirus.

Refill Their Medications
Many elderly adults are going into town to refill their prescriptions. The problem with this is that many elderly adults have pre-existing medical conditions that put them at a higher risk of getting severely ill from this virus. One of the ways that you can help your elderly loved one to stay safe is by offering to refill their medications for them. You can go to the pharmacy for them and pick up their prescriptions. If you can’t do this, you can see if their elderly care provider can do it. This will prevent your loved one from having to leave their home during this pandemic.

Check to See What Other Things Your Loved One Needs
Call your elderly loved one regularly. Ask them if they need other things including groceries, household items, food for their pets, or anything else. If you are already going out to the store once a week, getting a list of what your elderly loved one needs and getting those things for them would be great. This would stop them from needing to go out and reduce their risk of contracting the virus.

Reduce Your Encounters with Your Loved Ones

Maybe you used to go over and visit with your elderly loved one a couple of times a week. Now, with the coronavirus pandemic spreading around the world, social distancing and staying at home are 2 of the best ways to reduce the spread of this virus. While your elderly loved one needs someone to help them out, if you go out and about often for work or groceries, you could possibly spread the virus to your loved one. Instead of going to visit your elderly loved one, it may be best to just make phone calls to check up on them. If they have an elderly care provider that already comes over to assist them with things, have the provider let you know how they are doing, as well.

These are some of the ways that you can help your elderly loved one to stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic. If you do these things, your elderly loved one may be able to get through this pandemic without getting sick.
